Structural Designer

Katie McDougal

Feeling a little aimless, Katie began her studies at Utah State University with a declared major in nursing. However, when she connected the dots and realized she could actually use math and science to make something physical in the “real world”, engineering was an immediate choice. Leaning into her interests of sustainability and building something that will last, she later honed in on structural engineering. This journey has made her passionate about civil engineering, which is something you will realize when you ask her about it…and can’t get her to stop talking.

Katie recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Utah State in May 2025 and anticipates completing her master’s degree in 2026. While she is excited to (finally) graduate for the last time, she looks forward to never graduating from the school of life and continuing to learn throughout her career in structural engineering.

Education:

Utah State University - B.S., Civil Engineering, 2025
Utah State University - M.E., Structural Engineering, 2026

Interests:
In the time she isn’t working and studying, Katie loves being outside in almost any form. For her, that usually includes gardening, brutal hikes, backpacking, laying in a good patch of grass, or simply going for a walk. She also enjoys finding creative outlets, such as art and refurbishing dollhouses.

One climbs, one sees. One descends, and sees no longer, but one has seen.
